Borrowed Books #2

Given that it is Library Lovers Month, I'd have felt like a hypocrite outlining all the ways you can celebrate, without visiting my local library! I had a great time on my lunch break last week, browsing through all of the new releases and lovingly designed classics.

I was pleased to see that the Library of Birmingham was actually quite busy on a lunch time visit, which resorts my faith in the continuing presence of libraries.

Of course, no trip would be complete without checking out a book (or in my case three!) and I'm so pleased with my finds. I think a monthly trip to the library is definitely in order as it's quite close to where I work.  I've been neglecting it recently, and this needs to stop.

Another reason I need to start taking better care of my local library is that I'm on a mission to save money as I'm finally going to be moving out! My boyfriend and I found our perfect flat last weekend and we'll be moving in in March, which explains why it's been so quiet on the blog this week. Lots of paperwork and cardboard box collecting!

As for books, it's time to start pinching those pennies, so regular trips to the library is ideal.
The first book I picked up was one I hadn't heard of before, Note to Self by Alina Simone. This book explores how addictive the internet can be (she says as she types away on her blog...) I've not read many books with online themes. Developing technology and its affect on society is something I've always been interested in, which gets explored in Note to Self.

The next book I spotted was The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. This is one that's made the rounds on the blog and is very inspirational as this was penned during NaNoWriMo! I've not read many fantasy novels, so I'm looking forward to starting this one.

The last edition to the trio almost made me squeal when I spotted it. I've read so many great things about Tampa by Alissa Nutting. It was dubbed the most controversial book of the summer in 2013 due to its unconventional protagonist. I've always loved reading books and watching films with an unlikable main character, A Clockwork Orange being one of my favourites. This seems up the same street to me, and this is probably the one I'm most excited about.

What books have you borrowed this month?

  1. I wanted to read Tampa when it first cam out, but at the time I was mid-way through a teaching degree. It just felt too awkward! I've been meaning to pick it up, but given that I work with children, and almost all of my reading is done in my work lunchbreak... it just doesn't feel right! I'd be interested to see how you get on with it though.

  2. The Night Circus has been on my list for the longest time! I should probably visit my local library soon as I promised myself I wouldn't by any books until I finish the stack that I have collected at home. Not to self seems like a really good book. Mind making a review of it when you are finish?
